Demitra Procopiou graduated from Roehampton Institute, University of Surrey in 1990 with a BSc in History and Politics. Soon after graduating she joined the Battersea Arts Centre, first as a volunteer and later in the role of Duty House Manager, during which time she gained a further Postgraduate Diploma in Arts Management in 1997. She joined the Bloomsbury Theatre in 1997 as Assistant Administrator before moving to the Administration and Operations team at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1999. In February 2004 she took a career break to spend several months travelling; she joined Artwise on her return to the UK in August 2004.
