Tribe Art Projects / Young Designers

The Brief: To build on Artwise's successful international commissions for Tribe Art we were asked to devise a smaller scale parallel touring programme that was interactive and that would engage with the consumer on many levels.

The Artwise Solution: To continue Tribe Art's commitment to supporting emerging talents with a programme that includes research and development. Young designers were selected from multimedia design disciplines for their ability to push the boundaries of avant-garde technology. They include: rAndom International who have exhibited at the prestigious Milan and New York Furniture Fairs with Ingo Maurer; for Tribe Art they developed a series of tools that allow them to draw directly with light. Christopher Pearson, who creates animated wallpaper installations that surprise and delight in unexpected ways. His work has been in magazines such as Grand Designs, The Evening Standard and The Guardian and has also been published in the Wallpaper Book, to much acclaim. Channel 4 also did a 10-minute short film on the process and instillation of one of Pearson's site-specific works. Rowan Mersh, who creates kinetic fabric installations, blurring the boundaries between sculpture and textiles. Within a year of his graduation his work had been collected by the V&A and was featured in a publication by Black Dog. Philip Worthington, who plays on the gap between physical and virtual to create intuitive experiences using a variety of interactive computer vision techniques; his work has been exhibited at Londonís Design Museum.
