The Brief: To curate a portable project about the urban environment that can be shown in a range of alternative environments worldwide.
The Artwise Solution: Artwise selected a range of emerging and more established filmmakers and artists to present films, including three new commissions, based on personal experiences and urban incidences in cities throughout the world. Featured artists were Dora Longo Bahia, George Barber, Sarah Beddington, Junebum Park, Thomas K-ner, Zilla Leutenegger, McCormack & Gent, Karen Mirza & Brad Butler, and Matthew Noel-Tod. For optimal portability, Artwise sourced compact monitors that eliminated the need for computers, projectors, DVDs or videos. Each artist was asked to display their work over four such monitors, inviting them to develop imaginative ways to synchronise their images. Neatly reflecting the urban theme of the work, the Film Programme has been shown in bars and clubs (2005-6), and in the process succeeded in expanding the audience for cutting-edge video work.
