Oak Seasons from the Etch series is a new departure in Christopher Pearson practice. Pearson is of the new generation of artists who is pioneering the field of digital interfacing and motion graphics. Oak Seasons shows three pairs of remarkable 3D laser etched glass screens which bring together Christopher's love of traditional illustration and contemporary technologies. The internally lit screens have been delicately laser etched showing the growing cycle of the English oak tree, one for each season - spring, summer and autumn/winter. Look hard, for hidden within the intricate and beautiful patterning of his 3D drawings are surprising and incongruous details such as a light bulb hanging between two leaves, a swing suspended from a branch and a leaf that has been magically transformed into a roadmap of the UK! In doing this, Pearson brings a contemporary aesthetic with a typical sense of humour and intrigue to seemingly traditional designs. This is the first time that 3D laser etching technology has been used to this scale and dimension, which has been groundbreaking within the art and design industry.
