The Brief: To create the Public Art Strategy within the Landscape and Open Space Masterplan and Management Plan for Rochester Riverside, Medway, a 27 hectare brownfield site owned by Medway Council and SEEDA on the edge of historic Rochester. A flagship site in the Thames Gateway.
The Artwise Solution: Artwise collaborated with Armstrong Bell Landscape Design and Land Management Services to create a cohesive and challenging Public Art Strategy within the Landscape & Open Space Masterplan and Management Plan, to facilitate the development of high quality landscape design and well-managed public open space across the site. The strategy will be used as the starting point for dialogue between developers and their design teams and Medway Council and SEEDA
The resulting strategy promoted public art that would enhance the environment and quality of life in Rochester Riverside, in sympathy with the landscape architecture. It showed how ambitious and high calibre works could be afforded, and how public art could stimulate the cultural and financial wealth of Medway, uniting communities and being an exemplar for other developments.
