ARTWISE ANNOUCE THE WINNERS OF THE 2008 BRITISH AIRWAYS STUDENT TRAVEL AWARD
For over 11 years Artwise has travelled to regional art colleges throughout England and Scotland to find winners for The British Airways Student Travel Award. The prize is awarded to a graduating BA fine art student from one of 6 regional art colleges who demonstrate promise and uniqueness in their practice. The winners of the award receive a travel bursary, giving the young artists the opportunity to take advantage of British Airways routes, to help encourage further development of their work. The following students beat out many strong contenders, and we are pleased to announce the 2008 recipients of the British Airways Student Travel Award:

Artwise Curators continue to curate and purchase the British Airways international art collection, consisting of over 1,500 pieces and includes works by prominent British artists such as Chris Ofili, Peter Doig, Anish Kapoor, Tracey Emin, Mark Titchner and Damien Hirst. Terminal 5 will see a rehang of the collection including a striking painting by Peter Ellis, a number of classic Bridget Riley’s from the Egyptian series, two major works by Toby Ziegler and one of Gary Hume’s most iconic pieces Tony Blackburn. Many of the works that can be seen today in regional lounges were purchased from recent graduates from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle Art Colleges.
